Thomas Hobbes var en politisk filosof från England. Han föddes i Westport med en präst som far, utbildade sig vid Oxford där han tog examen 1608 och  för 6 dagar sedan — Thomas Hobbes huvudverk, Leviathan (1651), föreligger nu i svensk översättning av Eva Backelin.
